    73 S - door hinge bushing removal...

    If any one has tackled this I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on how best to remove (drift pin or drill out?) and replace (c-clamp?) the brass door hinge bushings. Seems like the right time to do this with the doors off. Also, when I removed one of the doors, there were a 3-hole 'shim' between the back of the hinge and pillar. PET calls them 'desk pads' and show a requirement for 4 suggesting one on each hinge (as opposed to X to indicate as needed). I can't think of any other reason to use them other than to shim, but do they have another purpose? Thank you all.

    I don't know about PET, but those are shims to be used as needed, sometimes none at all. I'm sure we use a proper size drift along with a air hammer to drive those out.

    You may want to check on the 356 registry for that because they have similar issues.

    I haven't seen a hinge wear out. I'm sure it is possible though.

    Just to clarify, the brass bushings are on the door hinge pieces welded to the door and they indeed have bushings...not the 3 hole receiver/hinges on the pillar. Yes, I've used the proper tool to remove the hinge pins and understand the re-install/adjustment process. I did find a wealth of information on this topic (bushing replacement) on PELICAN. Thank you

    When we've installed the bushings they required reaming to fit. We just used a valve guide reamer.

    Yes sir...have an 8mm straight flute reamer ready to go. Most suggest reaming before install as these are rather delicate/thin bushings. My concern in installing them first is trying to ensure the rather long drill/reamer extension needed to get to the upper hinge is kept perfectly straight. Have you had luck reaming first, installing second?
