    Nordschleife Lap Times?

I drove the Nordschleife at the Nuerburgring for the first time in 1983, in my second 2.2 911S, a coupe. With so many turns, this is a really hard course to drive the first few times. I took three laps on the first day, and was quite pleased that I broke 10 minutes on the last one. It was a blast.

The second time I drove it, I was in a 911SC Targa, and this was a couple of years later. I had my girlfriend with me and her suitcase in the trunk, so quite a bit of extra weight (although she only weighed 50kg herself, she made up for it in clothes! ). It felt really good -- I remembered the course very well, felt more at home, and it felt fast. Almost nothing passed me that day except motorcycles. I had 6 and 7 x 16 Fuchs wheels and P7's on the car, and I felt I could drift the car with more confidence, than the old S (even with my girlfriend screaming next to me the whole time). Despite the extra weight in the car, I thought I was going faster. But this was not the case. I could not break 10 minutes. After three laps, the nearly new P7's at the rear were totally bald -- twas an expensive day -- and I gave up.

Now I see there are a few things on the web about "Nordschleife Rundenzeiten", and I see that someone almost broke 10 minutes even in a Ford Transit Van!!! And people in stock Golfs and 1-series BMW's have done it in close to 8 minutes. WTF?! Times as slow as 10 minutes don't even make it into the lists! What a let down!! Just shattered my fond memories of going fast (as I thought) at the Nuerburgring. A Ford Transit Van!!!

Well, but driving the Transit van was Sabine Schmitz (Queen of the ring)
She drives Ring Taxi for BMW and has had about 15.000 laps on the ring back then.

A 991 Carrera S with PDK is capable of 7:37,9. Impressive.

    Don't feel bad...

I've only done one lap of the 'ring, in an old Audi 80 station wagon with a naturally-aspirated diesel motor (maybe 60 horsepower?) and nearly-bald winter tires. I think it took 19 minutes.

Finally something which makes me feel better. But I think with that equipment, you didn't do so badly :thumb:

    And I guess it was still a great adventure . . .

Touristfarthen ( laps ) are measured Bridge to Gantry, hence the abbreviation BTG , ie are not exactly a full lap.
