durant versus "flag" mirror was due to US DOT road security laws, I assume US market late production 2.2l were the first
to be equipped with "flag" ones, were the mirror area was bigger than on a round durant.

However, this was a transitional period, see here:
    1972MY 2.4T & 2.2S, Factory shots, Spring 1971

Ultra rare 1972 brochure for 2.4 models (I own), German market/langauge, printed September 1971.
Factory shot of approx. Spring 1971. These are all 1972 MY 2.4 models with round Durrant.

That brochure was done before production finished on the 71's, most likely rectangulars had not yet arrived.

I know that…my point was, yes, several 2.4's were installed with round durant and if ever a good clean survivor comes up for sale with it, we could beleive it. Vegetation on above factory shots look like well into spring in Germany, I assume its early May 71.

There was a factory tour of Spring 1972 with mostly "flag" 2.4 cars, but also this.
Note the mirror as well as the sticker on high left corner windshield, indicating its a new car:

Same sticker on front windshield on this new 2.4l car, the other is seen again in the back of this picture.

On the Gold emblem saga, My 71 T Targa with the comfort group and appearance group looks to have had Gold PORSCHE decklid letters, but silver 911T and targa band emblems.? popular opinions say that no (at least 71's) ever came with FULL gold emblems weather T,E or S.? Who knows for sure

72 ROW cars were still getting the round Durants, they weren't meeting U.S. D.O.T. rules. My 72 ROW 'S' has the round Durant.
