Thread: rekey door locks

    rekey door locks

    just replaced my ignition switch on my '70..now I am back 2 keys. One for ignition and one for the door locks

    I would like to rekey the door locks to the ignition key..

    I would like to drop off to a local locksmith the door locks for the rekey.

    ANY locksmith do this?
    Who/Where in So Cal can do this?

    Define Local? I know a few in Santa Monica. IS that too far?

    Ray,

    Tony Euganeo used to be a regular at the LA Lit show. If you don't mind waiting and if he's there I'm sure he can rekey the lock while you wait. And he's the best.

    The glovebox is different, at least on my '65. The key profiles are the same (you can insert the glovebox key in the door, and vice versa) but the glovebox has fewer pins in its lock tumbler so the glovebox key is shorter. They can't be keyed alike. If you had to leave your key at a parking lot you could keep the glovebox locked.

    You could try doing it yourself first - I did it recently on my 1970 door locks with this kit:
