repairing Targa Bar Cover attaching bolts

Have the usual dilemma on a 71 Targa. Tried to remove the Targa bar cover carefully w/o snapping the studs off, alas, they all snapped off. Looking for opinions on repairs, just weld new studs.? Any experience/tips with this appreciated. Thx

They are not conventional studs, but you must already know that. You must grind the old "stud" off the bar and make a new one by flattening one end of a stud with a BFH or grinding it flat and welding it on the Targa bar. It is not a particularly hard thing to do.

They are 6 X 1.0 thread and about 40MM long. You could just cut off some bolts to make them. Your local hardware store will be able to supply the bolts.

    Ciao

Thx again Jim, looks from the pics that you just welded the bolt and washer in place and ground the hell out of it once attached.?

I didn't so anything other that bead blast the one stud so we could see it better. That is pure Porsche Factory work. They welded 2 washers along with their home made (primitive) studs to the Targa bar and then ground off half of the washer for clearance on the rear studs on each side. The washers support nylon washers used for shims.
