Thread: Mirror at the right side 2.4 1973

  1. #11
    Hi Jim and Mike,
It seems you guys are right regarding model year 1973 (rectangualar mirror).
In 1972 they definitely offered the mirror on the right side.

I'm sure you know the sales brochure 1972/1973, the so called big white with more than 30 pages. This brochure has a photo that show a 911 with the round mirror on the right side (page with photo 35 km test drive outside the factory).

Maybe you know that this sales bochure has a 1972 edition and a 1973 edition.

Anyway, thanks for your hints and comments.

    Cheers.......Oliver

In that brochure what side of the car is the driver ? And if it is a left drive where is the right side mirror positioned?

    Hi again,
the described photo shows three new 911 driving side by side (35 km test drive outside the factory with a cover on the trunk lid) . Only the car in the middle has two mirrors (left and right). The driver of this car is sitting left (LHD). The photo is a front view photo and therefore it is difficult to judge the position of the mirrors.

    Cheers.................Oliver

I'm a bit puzzled by your post. Are you saying that Porsche offered a rectangular right hand mirror in 1972 but not in 1973?

    Regards

+1 The right hand square mirrors are aftermarket. When ordering two mirrors in 72 or 73 you would get round mirrors.

Oliver My friend has a right side mirror installed on his 73 that he bought from Ekler. It works just fine and you would have to look closely to see the position difference
It is mounted a little further back from the door edge. They opened up the installation holes and hit the end of a sharp pick directly through the holes. Then they
held the mirror up with someone in the drivers seat to fit over the small marks and moved it until it worked. Then they drilled the holes from the outside.
I sat in his car and the mirror works fine.

Don't give up because I'm waiting to see how it worked for you. Please let us know the results. Thanks Jerry Landes

By the way the mirror is a flag mirror and looks just like his left mirror.

That mirror is made by TMP since the mid 90s and sold by just about every Porsche independent parts supplier (including us) and Ekler's Chevrolet Parts. Opps, I meant Elker's Porsche Parts. There was never a flag mirror made by Porsche to fit on the right side of a 72, 73, 74 or 75 911.

Based on how Porsche re-used it product photos from year-to-year, I would venture to say the page 30 image is 1969 MY 911s. Page 29 of this brochure re-uses photos from 1970/1971 MY brochure. Note the Signal Orange (or Yellow?) 911 Targa on the left of the photo has no outside mirror.
