Newbie Looking for Help in Refurbishing a '68 Blaupunkt Frankfurt Radio

Size: 88.7 KBI've just joined the Early 911S Registry to help get connected on restoring my '68 911L. I bought it from my uncle back in 1992, but put it into storage for 18 years while we were living in Europe. Now that we're back in the States, I've gotten it out and have now restored the engine, tranny, electricals, suspension and brakes. With all of that now in good shape, I've finally gotten around to focusing on some of the interior work. Back in 1992, I foolishly replaced the original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio with a modern CD player. FORTUNATELY, I kept the old unit that I now want to reinstall.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions for somebody who refurbishes these units? I'd love to get this back into the car is it's the only non-stock item in the whole car! Many thanks for any help you guys can provide on this.

I had the original Blaupunkt from my '67 restored by Willie....he's pretty well know in the 356/911 community. He does incredible work at a reasonable price and quick turn around. Good luck!

    Didn't Willie retire?

I'm not sure what you mean by refurbish but I have used Hernan also, very happy with the results.

He repaired my Becker Grand Prix for a very reasonable rate. As it was in excellent shape cosmetically, nothing was done to the outside.

I had my 66 redone by Bill the Radio guy in Washington. He took out the out guts and put in a (Aurora)digital 40 watt AM/FM stereo with Ipod and bluetooth. The radio looks original. It is a much better sounding then new. Very happy with the results.

I just spoke to Willie - he is very much alive and well, and is still repairing old Porsche radios! He did tell me that he has sold his shop, although he also confirmed that he is still working on radios and will happily take a look at mine when I send it later this week. Thanks again to you guys for the steer on this one.

Are you sure it is not working? I am local to you and test it for you if you want. I too have used Willie for my radio work.

    Hi Mike,

Sorry that I'm just catching up on this forum now .... Unfortunately I've already shipped off my radio to Willie, but I really appreciate the offer to help trouble shoot the problem. I'll let you know what I hear back on that.

Looking at your sig, it looks like you've got some fabulous cars and I am wondering if you could point me in the direction of a good paint guy locally. I'm in Glencoe and so far I haven't had much luck finding a great lead on somebody on the North Shore who can help me restore my paint job. After 18+ years in storage I've attached a few photos showing the current state of the outside. It's not bad for that long, but I'm looking for the right guy to get this tangerine orange to pop again!

    Any thoughts??
