Thread: Washer Tank when Optima battery Installed?

Washer Tank when Optima battery Installed?

One of the many PO's installed a nice Optima battery in my 1973.5 which took up the space where the stock windshield washer tank goes. I like this battery setup and will keep it.

Any ideas on an aftermarket washer tank that will fit in the far corner of the trunk where there is a triangular space between the spare and the fender and front of the car?

This car has the full size spare over the single MY domed CIS gas tank.

The original washer tank should fit even with the Optima. Do you have a picture?

The original tank is long gone, but I'm pretty sure the Optima intrudes too fa over towards the center of the car anyway.

You don't need to relocate the washer tank. You do need to move the charcoal cannister, though.

I would love to see pics of that fabulous install.

Dollars to donuts someone didn't mount it on its side and shove it in the batt box. When installed properly you can even reinstall the charcoal filter in the same spot. You just need to rotate it 90 degrees and stand it up in the bracket.

Thanks Frank for clearing up my confusing post. Gee, it sounds like you may have done this once or twice before.

    Ciao

The battery was mounted upright and not in the side box. I may move in a few decades, but it is going to stay there for now. The charcoal canister was missing when I bought the car 15 years or so ago, but I was recently able to source one.

But I am quite sure the stock tank (even if I had one) would not fit.

Any help on a triangular shaped windshield washer tank?

Mounting the Optima in the battery Box allows you to use all the original stuff. It is very simple.

I understand. It also moves 38 lbs. further from the centerline - if I have to stick a boat anchor in the car, and worse need to put it up front, I want it as close to the center as possible. When I upgrade to a Li-air unit, I'll stick it in the box.

    Inquiring minds want to know:

Who cares if that 38lbs is farther outboard?
