New member to the forum, I need help with determining value of items (father died)

    Hello Early 911s members.

Im gonna try and make this short and concise if I can. Please move to correct forum area if this is not it. My father Mark (MarkS on this forum) was an avid Porsche racer, builder and collector for the past 30 years. He passed away about 2 years at the age of 62 from cancer. I myself am a car builder and racer but I have limited knowledge when it comes to Porsche related items. This is where you all come into play!!! I need to start cleaning up the shop and start moving parts that I don't see me needing or using in the future. Can you maybe help me identify and value some of the items? Before I get a PM's the car is not for sale its staying put. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Here is a link to the final resto pics: We pulled matching number engine and trans (stored away) http://s138.photobucket.com/user/Sho...art=all&page=1

First up are these Minilites. I need to check offset but they are 15x7 with the correct matching lugs and washers. Are they Mag or Aluminum? Only stamping I see is a possible SB of back of hub. All are pretty clean no big rash. One wheel is kinda pitted on the inside (see pic)

Webber carbs IDA 40's. Pretty clean.

I know these BF Tornio seat aren't old but any clue on worth? They are brand new.

    My condolences.

Have a professional automotive appraiser look at the car and suggest a price range; they will give you a written document, which is always handy to wave in the face of a potential buyer. I have used Deane Fehrman, Antique Auto Appraisals, 303/237-3031; he's in Golden, Colorado, but he may be able to refer you to another qualified appraiser nearby. His work for me and many others has stood up to IRS and court scrutiny.

Hey Tim my heartfelt condolences we spoke through Pelican I believe right after your father's passing ,as I remember your dad was always upbeat , saw the positive side in all outcomes and was always a beneficial contributor to this forum.
I spoke with him at length many times about four years back as I purchased a'69S basket case from him at that time.
As I recall he had just finished a nut and bolt rebuild and resto of the '67S and he was very poud of his hand work !
Many thanks and any way I can be of assistance please let me know thanks Bert Robinson

Hi Tim. Sorry to hear about your father. I cant help a lot, but the corrosion pitting on the one wheel you show is more consistent with magnesium than it is with aluminum. So at least that one is probably mag.
The aluminum Minilites had a date code stamp on the front, so if there is no date code, it may be another indication that these are mag.

Value....Im not sure. Magnesium is typically more valuable. I would guess $500 - $1000 per wheel (magnesium) depending on condition. Harvey Weidman at Weidman's Wheels in Orrville CA may be a better source of info.

One piece of advice. Dont throw anything away. Sometimes the most inconsequential appearing little part may be worth hundreds or thousands. Same goes for books and literature. Some of that stuff is really valuable.

I might be interested in the tires if you sell them separately.

    Tim,
I hope you were able to enjoy some time with your father before his illness got the better of him. My dad is battling the same demon right now so I know how difficult it is.

I also know what a pain in the butt it is to get rid of a bunch of crap! Good luck on that. Keep posting parts here for estimates of value. This community is great at lending a hand.

(Don't get me wrong: There's some valuable crap there.)
