    Adding LED to the garage

Might be off topic, but it is "general info" of sorts: LED's are awesome.

I inherited a smaller and poorly lit garage post move... I just added an LED strip over a beam (14 feet) and also soldered a 2ft extension to it under the shelves to light up a workbench. You can cut those strips every foot if you wish and solder them to one another with simple wires.. soldering 2 wires to the strip was the hardest part (not hard at all).

Not sure the photos reflect the difference because the camera adapts to the light - I should cheat with photoshop but who cares, hopefully you can see a difference... If I pull the cars forward a bit, the light is bang on over the engine compartment ! Twice the output...

I don't have any in the garage but I installed them in my house last year (2500K Ecosmart bulbs) The light is amazingly clean and pure. Also the reduced UV light is much easier on artwork and pictures. Here in AZ the added bonus of significantly reduced heat generation is great in the summer. I'm redoing my garage here soon and will definitely be putting in some LED bulbs.

Oh yeah, and the fact they last 10Xplus longer than incandescent an use a fraction of the power of flourecent is pretty awesome too!

I just had 4 ceiling cans installed. It was $600 parts and labor. They're LED with dimmers.

I like them but it's not a huge difference over traditional lighting. I would do it again though.

Where did you buy these strips? They would be ideal for a poorly lit part of my garage.

Local electrical supplies store. They run 4.5 w per foot. So for my 16 ft roll I got a 100w power supply (12v - worst case you could pimp your 911!!). As I understand they have clips to join cuts, I used wire and solder on their advice but both work. Different light warmths available, I went extra bright and cold for the garage. I saw they sell a kit with a smaller roll and power supply included - easy plug and play - I wanted to experiment and splice however..

A bit OT as it is not stationery.
A great aquisition - one thing I would really miss.

Especially great if you have other Festool tools and can user their rechargeable batteries making this light last for hours and hours and hours.
Main benefit its that it doesn't throw shadows because of its very even light distribution - and it takes mistreatment quite good.

    Cheers

If Porsche made power tools. . . they would be Festool.
