rubber/platic liner under aluminum door threshold

Wondering if the factory put anything underneath the outer aluminum door sill plate (71 targa) or did they just rivet this directly over the painted sill/rocker.? My car was repainted somewhere long the line and now I'm reassembling it. Thx in advance

Not metal rivets, plastic ones, and as said nothing underneath.

Yes, white plastic, all repros I've seen are super-weak. Any good ones around??

I believe the plastic rivets are still available from Porsche, although these days that doesn't guarantee that they aren't poor repros as well. No personal experience, but they do show as available.

they are still available at porsche but pricy...they are transparent and not white....if you can not get them anywhere in the us you can find the same ones porsche sells on ebay.de search for "porsche 914 spreizniet

i installed the trim with those rivets today.

What tool if any do you use to install them? I have a bag of the ones Porsche sells and they end up bending or distorting when I try and push the pin in.
I used some white aluminum rivets which appear almost like the original white plastic ones.

Me too, as if the 'pin' was made of rubber!

I start the pin in with a small pliers, that way I can 'support' the pin, then give it a final tap to seat it.
