If (big if) there is a difference in regard to "stiffening", I'm trying to figure out who cares and why?

    These are street cars.

My vote on the rarity issue is that they are very rare and desirable in that year of car.

My observation is that they were typically 2nd or 3rd on the option list in the 70-73 time frame after "S" trim and Fuchs. So even moderately-equipped cars got sunroofs.

Having said that, I am looking at it (as most on this thread so far) from a North American perspective. The North American distributor was creating a 'minimum trim level' while the ROW cars are more often seen with base trim and even 4-speed transmissions. So if sunroofs are in 10-20% of US-destined cars of that era, they are probably in 5-10% of ROW cars.

They've never seemed that rare to me on LWB cars. Worst place to have extra weight is the top of your roof. Lol. It's a personal preference I guess. I like a clean solid top without a hole in it. But, I like them all. I had an RS America with a sunroof and I think I opened only once and that was when I was driving up highway one with the wife to ALMS race in Monterey.

The more options you have the higher the value of the car. Right now people are creating fully optioned long hoods because that's where the money is. Porsche is cooperating as several people here have discovered. When you get your CoA just call Porsche and suggest that they seem to have made a "mistake". They seem to be more than willing to correct those "mistakes". Now you have a fully documented highly optioned car.

It's interesting that just a few years ago the non-sunroof cars seemed to the top dog on the value tree. Things seemed to have changed.

    A sunroof in a 356 is a home run.
On a late S (my 993 S Vesuvio) it is RARE not to have one

I seem to recall that back when these cars were new, some of the sports car magazines decried the weight increase and the [slightly] higher center of gravity.
