Does anybody know from which year(s) this PCA badge is?
Should there be more colors on this badge or is this more or less how it was supposed to be back then?

I think those were made over a long period. Many such PCA badges had trouble with the pigmented stuff falling (glass?) falling out. I suspect that was a badge that couldn't handle the weather.

PCA Badges have been made for a very long time, but the one above seems to be a very early rendition. Look carefully at the eagle's neckline and notice the sharp V vs the later kinds when Speedsters were around, badges would sport a wider V. Later versions of PCA badges had the eagle neckline as a Zigzag. There are some differences in the wings too.

This one was on a '68 that I bought 12 or so years back.

txs people. Am I right in saying that the badge I sent has the sharp V eagle neckline and that the one John sent is the wider V?
When did these badges begin? When did the 'sharper V' end?

If it's any help, here's the badge I bought for my 911 circa late 1997:
And here's the badge I bought for my 356A circa early 2004 (I didn't transfer the badge when I got the car a more correct grill):
Of course, there's no telling how long the badges sat on a shelf at PCA headquarters.

Its all speculation on era, but maybe someone who is really into PCA paraphernalia might know for sure. I have some next to worthless wine glasses and some equally worthless early stickers. Who knows.. maybe the sharper V means it was a one off batch or not officially adopted and a model. It could be, like Beanie Babies, be very common. Please take your camera and try to take much closer/clearer shot of the badge? Then take a comparative second shot of the sharper eagle neckline.

I'm not that much into PCA stuff, but I *AM* into badges I've spoken to a few "on the inside", but have yet to contact anyone who was with the goodie store or other purchasing parties if, indeed, they are still with us. some general observations;
E.F. Weinmann was the first company to produce these. they are the only badges that were made in Germany. I believe they were first produced starting in 1958 and were available until about 1969. they carry the E.F. Weinmann maker mark on the reverse. unless abused they are extremely durable. the red in the shield is translucent with a saw tooth pattern in the metal base. very beautiful piece. they are head and shoulders above everything that came after. all subsequent examples have a red or reddish field that is opaque.
what came next is open to speculation, but my guess is the contract went to a company in Spain. I have a couple examples of these. they are not fired enamel, but painted in the relief and marked SPAIN on the reverse. one looks new except for the fact that about half of the paint is missing. the other looks worse than the first one posted.
I also have examples with no maker mark (Taiwan before it was OK to label their product ?) & Peoples Republic of China. I'm guessing these are 80s or newer.
these later ones are fired enamel.
let's see some more pix guys
