    different type of Solex snorkels??

I have several Solex airfilters with snorkel and I noticed today 1 snorkel is different. Picture below clearly shows that the small spout is on the left or right side of the main spout......
The measurements of the main shape is exactly the same for both, including the angle of the elbow.

There are some small differences though:
The one with the small spout on the right (lower one on pic) has a metal joint right after the elbow curve (see detail), whereas the one with the spout on the left (top one in pic) does not have that. To curve the latter, it has been cut on the inner side, bent and welded together again.
Another difference is that on the bottom one, the small spout is attached with a socket on the outside, and the lower one does not have that.

Both snorkels seem very original, dull paint and seemingly no restoration.

Can anybody elaborate on this please?

I have two Solex Snorkels. One's original to my car (301382, built May-June 1965) but I can't date the other one. Both are identical to the lower one in your top picture. Also, there's only one part number: 901.108.986.00 "COVER COMPLETE." I would think putting the smaller preheat inlet on the other side would merit a different part number.

The snorkel in an early 911 usually has this sticker:

The above is a scan of a reproduction sticker I got from AASE at the 2014 Lit Meet. Here's a photo of one on a really old 911. I think it's 300049:

Is it possible the snorkel on top in your top photo isn't really intended for a 911? I question that putting the preheat inlet on top would even work in a 911's engine bay. Pointing the snorkel to the left would put it on the side of the engine bay with the relays. Porsche probably didn't arrange for an all new air cleaner for a very limited production car. The spring latches on the air cleaner appear to be common to VWs (like my microbus).

    Txs for yr answer!
Mystery solved. The non correct snorkel is also an original Solex 1965 snorkel, but it has been altered the other way around to fit a very early airco pump. This has been done almost 50 years ago and therefore I thought it still had original paint.

Is it not an altered weber snorkel? And why do you think it was done almost 50 years ago, did your car came w/ an airco?

Car came in parts, CoA/Kardex does not mention airco (if they had that at all as an option back then). I did not remember which car this snorkel came from and then one previous owner seemed to remember this. There was no airco in the collection of parts I bought, but anyway, it would explain the strange direction of the snorkel.
The Weber snorkel has larger diameter, a different foot, different coding and has flanges on both sides; is also shorter. I now see the metal insert welding has been cut and re-welded after the 180 degree turn. I thought at first it was one piece and just bent, but my layman's eye did not see it had been worked on, got tricked by the original looking paint.

Going to have it restored to original shape.
