    Serial Numbers

This is my first posting and am a new member, but I have been around Porsches my entire life. I am currently restoring a 1971 S. I removed the old dash last night and was surprised to see the original chalk mark serial number written on the driver's side binnacle. However, I thought this was supposed to match my body number. My body number is 9111301145 and the chalk marks are 1313434.
    I appreciate it guys!

    Hi Jay.
That number sounds like it is one of your production numbers. There is a number stamped into the dash behind and just above your ashtray. There might also be another number stamped to the right side on the center tunnel by the access area to the transmission shift coupler (in between the rear footwells).

    Hi Jay,

The 7 digit chaulk number on the top of the dash is the production number. This will be a different number from the chassis number in a '71 model 911. Are you sure the second digit is '3'? I say this because your VIN shows that your car is a 1971 S model coupe, so the production number should be 1013434. The second digit should be a '0' for a coupe.

Go to post #426 in this thread to view the production number stamped into the lower portion of the dash below the radio. Remove that portion of the dash. What is the number there?

    130 is correct for 1971 S coupe. My 1971 911S is 911 130 0378

    All good info!
I had just wrongly assumed that the last 4 digits of both numbers should match.
    Thanks much!
