Torsion Tube Dimensions from Workshop manual

I am gearing up for some rust repair. Yes, the torsion tube and longitudinal rust.
The replacement tube is at a machine shop down the road from where I work. Hoping to get a quote soon for a fix.
I have been measuring the one on the car and studying the attached drawing.

I was hoping someone might confirm the 1055 +/- 0.5 dimension.
From my latest go around, that dimension looks to me to be between the spring plates. The overall length of the tube would be about 15 mm less, (7.5 mm each end).
I am getting a good 1079 between the bushing cover attachment points.

And, I just don't see what the 1003-1 would be? I am getting about 970 between the bushing "stops". And what is being shown in the drawing below the tube, (the 1055 dim) anyhow?

I am finally getting to the project after about two years of it sitting, (and me not participating here). Who knows, maybe I can make it a driver by spring. I will have to add ugly pics to add to this...

    Thanks, Dan
