    1966 911

    First posting.
I have a 911 that I purchased as a '66, but was told by the seller that it was actually a '65 titled as a '66, reflecting the date that it entered the States. I've since learned that for some reason the U.S. didn't recognize the 911 model until 1966 and that may be the reason. I've also learned of a number of identifying features of 65's (and early 66's) that this car has; '1965' date-stamps on the wheels, 4-screw horn grills, left-parking wipers, a 901 5-speed transmission, Solex carbs, and a '911' on the glovebox door.
The car has not been driven since 1977, it's been sitting in my garage since then (long story). The car is 99% original. It's missing the hubcaps and the original owner replaced the steering wheel with a leather-wrapped Momo wheel.
It's in rough shape, but considerably better than most similar -vintage unrestored cars that I've seen posted.
Here's my immediate issue; I know I can get a COA from Porsche and learn everything about the car through the serial number. Unfortunately it, and all of my paperwork (title, etc.) is in the trunk, and I can't get the trunk open. The release cable will not pull far enough to release the latch (BTW, the hood isn't rusted shut, I can bounce it on the latch spring).
Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me get the hood open, or find another location for the serial number?

    All reasonable suggestions are welcome.

Hello BD and welcome to the board.

Sounds like you have a really great car. Here is a suggestion to get the hood open, have someone attempts to pull up on the hood while you pull the hood release lever. You may be able to get the latch to open just enough to get the hood to release.

You may also find the chassis number on the driver side A pillar between the door hinges. Finally, the chassis number will also be located underneath the radio behind the knee pad.

Good luck, please post some photos of your car and additional history information.
