    '66 911 front hood release... won't

I posted a similar msg in 'General info', but this may be a better audience.
I have a '66 911 that has been parked for years (and years). I can't get the front hood open. The cable release is operable from inside the car, to a degree, but I can't pull far enough to get the deck lid to release.
The lid isn't froze/jammed; I can bounce it on the release spring.
Does anyone know of any way around to get it to release? Any suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks,
    BD

Use a small vise grip to hold the cable in the release position from in the car, now go to the front of the hood and TWIST, PULL, SHOVE, until you find the direction the hood needs to go to clear the hood pin from the latch bar. Look at the engine lid, it is exactly the same, then you'll see what I mean.

an alternative to twisting the hood, if you can get the pre-release to lift the hood, you can get in there with a 9-10mm wrench and take out the 2 small bolts holding the upper hood latch. Takes time, but you can get at them. That is just what I did last weekend, as I had the same problem on my 71 (assuming a 66 hood latch is the same). Didn't want to twist the hood that I just had bodywork on

The plunger may be hung up inside the lower latch. I had the same issue recently and wasn't able to get it free by using vice grips on the release and twisting the hood. But was only able to remove two of the bolts holding the lower latch. I also ran a coat hanger around the plunger and could slip a piece of plywood under the hood to jar the plunger loose. Good luck!
