    Correct Paint Details for 1967

    Friends,

I am sorry to ask this, but for purposes of authenticity, I have been trying to dig out a thread (or more than one) which accurately shows the paint details for august 1967. So far, I've gotten only nominal results from my own 'searches,' so i thought I would ask for the assistance of members smarter than myself.

The details for the underbody, pan, and inner fenders seem to be black over bare steel, then bodyschutz. (of course, we will try to improve on that technology.) If you have other/better information, I'd be happy to hear it.

If anyone has accurate paint details for the front trunk, front decklid hinges, and engine compartment, with rear decklid hinges, or if there is an existing thread (that I'm not smart enough to find), all assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for any and all productive assistance.

Search "Pete Sorensen" in the For Sale section. Pete restored a beautiful white "67 911 about a year ago and it was sold by Bonham's in Scottsdale. There ad has many photos which may be helpful to you.

Here is the Sorensen car: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-0-Liter-Coupe

In case you missed it, I think this thread is useful: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...p/t-67461.html

You say Aug 67. Just to avoid confusion, is your car a very early 68?

    Radmund, and TeeItUp,

thank you for your good assistance. I will perform the research as recommended and we will use it to inform my restoration.

Radmund, you are correct. my car is a very early '68, rather than a '67. there is an implied question in your remark which i feel should be addressed (why did i ask for '67 details?). there are two basic reasons.

first, the '68 MY has so many transitions that an open question using "1968" would lead to confusion just because of the transitions that we all know took place for the american cars. i wanted to minimize the confusion.

second, after performing literally hundreds of little research questions, including COA, parts manual, existing provenance literature, and inquiries with the Registry, I have determined that my car (#11880001) was one of the last to have certain '67 fixtures. this includes such things as hard knobs on the window cranks, despite soft knobs on the dash. For my car, there were certain clear '68 updates, such as 5.5 fuchs and '68 fenders, but a lot of the 'little' details remained '67.

there is a long list of those types of '67/'68 details, and it appears that Porsche used the entire '68 model year to plan and absorb the details necessary to address American safety standards. the range of changes includes: the types of seats/head rests, hard/soft knobs, breakaway interior mirrors, additional interior padding, side reflectors and so forth. based on the research i've done. Porsche was consumed by the safety details for American cars and it took a long time to get them all addressed.

because of that, the '67 paint details appear (to me) to be more correct for such an early car.

but if others disagree, i am interested in well-reasoned thoughts.

    thank you, everyone.

    Hi Mike,
Now I understand! You are the guy with the interesting ESSES articles I have been reading.

First I would like to advertise a little for Bryce´s excellent "how to search on the S-Registry thread". This is how I find stuff here: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...egistry-forums

I have been looking for paint detail differences on the SWB cars, but not been able to find any until now. So will follow this thread with interest to find out what differences there might be.

Because you title says ´67 paint details, I will post the pictures I have collected that will be helpful for me when the time comes to do some work on my car.

Maybe this is what you need, maybe not, but it will at least be good to collect some good pics in this thread and also useful for others in the future looking for reference pics.

If you need, I have an excellent unmolested late '67 car - I can take pics of anything relevant.
