    72 oil line question

I bought this restoration project in boxes so I don't have the advantage of having taken the car apart. It came with factory 72 hard and soft lines to a front cooler (try to find those parts!!).I believe this part is the return tube from the 72 oil reservoir to the engine cooler. All the documentation I can collect does not reveal what is connected to the small welded boss fitting off the tube (looks like a -6 male connector). It's probably something like a vent line from the engine , but if anyone has definitive info it would be greatly appreciated as always. Thanks, MikeName: 72 911 oil return tube.jpg

It is for a sportomatic transmission line connection. Engine oil was used in the shifting mechanism (I think), not for the gears which used conventional gear oil.

My manual transmission 1972 doesn't have that adapter piece, I just repainted it.

Do either of you have a front cooler on your car and do you have installed the factory parts for the front cooler?

You can order the hard lines and most of the components from Porsche these days. Check the PET...scroll down to the oil tank and lines page and get P/Ns. Call Sunset Porsche in Portand, OR for help and good prices.
