Question on Wurth finish for Gas Tanks

Hello...I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the aerosol version of Wurth stone guard for finishing a gas tank. My understanding is that SKS grey was the original product used, but that has been discontinued by Wurth. They do however now offer the product shown below in aerosol cans. Any input or testimonials would be much appreciated...Thanks Steve Name: c.jpg

No way could you spray that thick enough with the proper texture. You need the Wurth gun to get the right texture. Look for U Pol Gravitex in Grey. Easy to get.

Agreed that the aerosol cans might not give you the result you want. I went with the black SKS and then top-coated it with grey paint.

You pay for shipping, I'll lend you a "used once" Wurth SKS spray gun, if you go that way.

What color / brand of gray paint did you use and does it look original?

I remember searching and finding a recommendation online (maybe here or at the bird). I'll see if I have any more in the shop next time I'm there. I think it looks original but I'm no expert.

At the risk of showing my ignorance, were tanks ever painted black? For some reason, I thought tanks were black in '69 so I painted mine with Rustoleum satin black over the SKS.

Interesting you say that, because as I am stripping my 69 E fuel tank it appears to have never been refinished, and it is black. All my research says that for 69 it was always gray, but who knows. Unless someone can provide information to make me believe otherwise, I am going to go gray.
