1969 - Hmm... i was thinking to remove the screen from the grill and then I read that there are a 100 parts... some are rivets too? Sounds like "a job for Superman."

In some places paint is peeling off of the thing and I wanted to strip that paint away (aircraft paint remover) and leave it all bare metal except for the screen. Now I wonder if the paint remover etches the metal finish too. It might be that this old grill was painted to cover up metal flaws back in the 80s. Any thoughts?

I got the rivets from Byler rivets in Dallas, hollow brass ones like what came originally, maybe not dead nuts perfect, but close. You will need a rivet squeezer and some special anvils to set them however.
