Speedometer Conversion

This 72 project I fighting with came with a mech speedo and a later elec signal 915 trans. Palo Alto Speedometer referred me to the Dakota Digital ECD-100 as an option, instead of going through the cost of buying another elec speedo and converting the appearance back to a 72.

I understand that an adapter is available (or can be made) to mate with the Porsche cable. The unit runs $300. Would like to hear from anyone with experience or suggestions. Much appreciated as always.
