    wiper mechanism question

Taking apart my project 72's wiper linkage for a cleaning. I noted that it is difficult to operate. I disconnected the linkage from the motor, and it is still is very stiff. It is not balky, just very stiff when trying to turn it. The 4 bar linkage itself is not the issue, that turns freely. The problem is the wiper drive shaft located within the threaded housing. It does not turn easily. It is incapsulated by a snap ring that is difficult to remove, so before I start to molest it I thought I'd ask whether this is normal. Anyone with a definitive word? Thanks, mike

It is probably time to replace the whole linkage assy. If left alone or fixed with a bandaid, you will eventually burn up the motor.
There are places where you can purchase a very lightly used wiper mechanism for a reasonable amount.
You can take my advice with a grain of salt, though.
I am one of those places that sells used wiper assys.

    Regards

Take a couple of pictures of the assembly, remove clips and disassemble. They are totally rebuild-able for like new operation, not difficult at all. Clean all parts really well use a good quality grease and anti seize.

    Mark..
p.s. I can provide the service if you are uncomfortable with it.

Thanks for the offer guys, but I can do the repair pretty easily, just didn't want to change something that may have been intended. If I get in trouble I'll be sure to send it to you
