    Signal/wiper cluster removal

The last item on the dismantling of my 1968 targa project is the removal of the signal/wiper cluster from the dash, it is held in place by three bolts two nuts appear right behind the instrument dial and one bolt under neath tucked below the dash from trunk side. The two bolts behind dials have normal nut probably 14mm one nut came out right away the second spins the bolt. Now for the bolts the head of the bolt is a perfect round head, nothing to hold on to. How are these removed?

The third bolt the nut is perfectly round, is there a way to remove this with out attacking it with vice grips and destroying it.

    Thank you.

If I remember right those are shear bolts, the head breaks off at the right torque at installation. You can use a chisel and get an edge started and turn them out by using the chisel with hammer blows. Or you might try cutting a slot in the head with a cut-off wheel and maybe turning them out with a straight tip screwdriver. A good test of creativity!

These sound like the sheer bolts, two long and one short. As Ed says, the hex head snaps off at a specific torque. I used a cut-off wheel to cut a slot in each of the round "heads" then used a screw driver to remove. I chased the threads and cleaned up the slots and added them to get yellow zinc plated. Each bolt is something silly, like $25 from Stoddard when I checked, so I reused...
    Cheers,
