orig cond. 66 911 orange bar hood badge

    *SOLD*

personally removed this a couple years ago thinking I might need it someday, not likely so its for sale. completely untouched, never buffed cleaned or touched up. as you can see, its in amazing original condition for 50 years old. still has its original rubber gasket that sits perfectly on it and original mounting nuts and pins still attached. this needs to go on a preservation/concour car. its only original once so I didn't want to do anything to it. has those light haze spots on the orange in a couple areas, no idea what it is and not easily visible out in the daylight, might come off as well with certain cleaners. only blemish to the enamel is to the right of the last T in STUTTGART in the black bar, seems like a rock chip at some point. im really reaching to find defects just so whomever is a happy buyer.

prices are all over the stratosphere with these, from 1500 to 700 on others in similar condition and the sellers removed the price so I don't know what they sold for. some of those have been buffed and restored as well. I guess ill split the difference and see how it goes. $1100 obo shipped

not sure if joking or serious. ive seen many that have had orange bars replaced, polished to look shiny, missing studs, etc go for 400-500 after being repaired. another decent original one went for 700 within the last weeks. another was listed for 1500 then marked sold.

    serious customers only please.

My bet is that it would only sell to a European with their favorable currency "Exchange Rate" of about 1:1.60 last I paid attention...

You haven't check in a while. It approached 1.6 last in 2008. It's at 1.19 today.

To me, there's no reason nice badges shouldn't move up in price along with the cars. The hood badge is arguably the single most noticed part on a stock early car. A nice unmolested original badge with the right patina is a nice finishing touch.

    Seller did say 'OBO'.

gotta love the bashers. "cleaning" would defeat the purpose of original patina, wouldn't it? say you have an orig. 65-68 swb preservation class car, you want a shinny one like yours or mine? two different badges for two different applications. the metal nuts were there when removed, i can only post five photos with the ad, if serious buyers want more, id gladly take more.

Cleaning wouldn't remove patina, but polishing would. It's a nice badge, but it may be priced high. Similar ones to this are typically about $500+ now, I think. I've bought a few over the past 18 months, and this one does appear to be losing the gold unfortunately.

I assume you already tried to clean off the orange bars? Is that correct? Will those spots come off? If you can make the orange bars all look like the bottom left one, you may get close to your asking price. Just my .02

So, what did you end up selling it for? Would be good to keep the pricing for the next guy as you pointed out.
