Thread: Porsche "Pepita" (Houndstooth) fabric

    Porsche "Pepita" (Houndstooth) fabric

In my journey for Porsche trimming perfection I have had a run of “Pepita” (hound’s-tooth) material re-woven in black & white by a Scottish weaver in the UK. Having used most suppliers of hound’s-tooth over time for trimming I’ve found one of the best precise pattern and weave was that once produced by Auto Foreign Services.

The process started with an original piece of seat material sent to the weavers for complete breakdown to determine the type and composite thread (merino wool/nylon), pattern, colour and repeat used by the original manufacture for Porsche. After some weeks an exact reproduction in every detail has been produced.

In addition the material has undergone a “rub test”, this a wear test used for upholstery testing, the result was an outcome of 45,000 plus

Material will arrive with me in the next four weeks and I've only commissioned a limited production run to gauge interest.

A pair of comfort seats will require two meters of fabric along with most other seat applications

Cost is £91 per meter plus shipping

Garry the seller is a little low profile this side of the pond. But he is a very good friend of mine so your funds are safe. I had the pleasure of seeing this material last week. "it's on the money guy's "

    Dear Garry,

do you also have the weight of the material available . .the gramm per sqm? the "abreibeinheiten" "rub test" sounds promissing.

    Indeed it is Clyde

Composite make up is 98% +/- 1% merino wool and 2% nylon +/- 1%. The nylon gives the material longevity and reduces bobbling after shaving.

When the weaver broke down the original material along with a piece of Eric's I supplied there was a trace of nylon in the original. So it was decided to slightly increase it's content for the reasons above.

    Best

    Hi Garry, great work.
Is there any chance of a run of black/white /blue in the future? I know a few of us would be all over that!

    That was the plan Chris,

I've only commissioned 25 meters (B&W) to gauge interest mainly for the UK & US (forgot about you guys down under sorry), but in the short time I've posted 15-20 meters are spoken for already. Going forward on the next run of 50 meters it has been discussed that at 25 meters a colour change can be introduced for the remaining 25 if that makes sense.

The project was mainly to serve my UK customers, as we all know early car owners like detail. I wasn't happy with some of the detail of material on the market especially when trimming sport recaro's, and we've seen where the cost of a pair of those has gone

Downer is the set up costs :-(

    Hi Garry

Another Aussie here... Any idea how many meters a pair of sport seats take? I would be keen on B&W, but would also be a possible starter on a colour...

    Cheers
