Thread: What is your lightweight audio setup ?

What is your lightweight car audio setup ?

    Hi all

I have this 911 project and i am willing to go lightweight but confortable.
So it is not going to be radical but still i will try to have it both ways.

One parameter is audio. I want to keep the radio in the car and of course need speakers. But where to put them ?
Don't want to use the doors panels.
Was thinking about a little subwoofer under the seat (if there is room) and two medium speaker, maybe tweeters.
    What did you do ?
    Advices and pictures are welcome.

    Cheers

My response holds absolutely no validity because I don't own a 911. But..... If I did.... The six trumpets behind the firewall would be enough music for my ears.
Porsche taste on a Volkswagen budget...

I cut an extra hole in the door for separate tweeters (the mid-range went into the stock hole). Crossover goes in the bottom of the door after being wrapped in foam and then plastic for waterproofing. Door panels are replaceable and will need to be replaced some day anyway.

It would be better to fab up (on a 3D printer maybe) a tiny tweeter enclosure that fits into the bottom corner of the A-pillar and dash/windshield. I saw a thread about that on some forum but don't know if anybody actually has done it.

Moch 1 under dash and map pocket mounts are bad places for sound.

A stereo is very worthwhile when forced to drive on the freeway - you turn it off when you turn off onto a twisty road.

I need to add an amp and plan to either put it under the passenger footwell or in the smuggler's box. As low and as far forward as possible - it is the heaviest thing you will add to the car for stereo... (Unless you add a bunch of sound dampening product all over the rear bulkhead.)

Some have mounted speakers on the rear shelf, but that adds wt. in the worst place. I'd like to add rear speakers into the rear side panels behind the seat belt mounts.

    any pictures.
what is important to me is where you have your equipment not the weight.
i have a project coming and i have to have at least the radio (lots of jams in paris) but not crazy about the fact of having holes in doors.

My lightweight audio set-up is my wife singing to me from the passenger seat.

I have grappled with the fact that I have no tunes in my 911... still.. I find music a distraction when competing with engine sounds.

haven't done it yet so no pics - but use the existing holes for the mids and then those tiny tweeter boxes I mentioned above will not need any holes & will be a better location than the doors anyway

the other issue is a head unit which fits into the existing dash hole - easy to find one, but hard to find one that is a digital unit but has no amp itself

I have a friend who's all of 4'11" and maybe 85 lbs. She's more accomplished as a dancer but she does have a nice singing voice.

This is a box I made of light particle board, upholstered with black German vinyl to match parcel shelf/interior vinyl, mounted speakers fixed to the box and it sits flush against the bottom of the shelf with the decline of the shelf surface itself. All the speaker wiring is concealed in the box. The sound reflects off the glass to the front for an excellent audio with power if needed. The entire box removes easily and sits nice and low so as to not reduce any rear window view with the rear view mirror. I've seen some of those shelf speaker boxes with the head rest kinda looking things and they are way too big, ugly and bulky. If I had to do it all over again with today's technology I would go with bluetooth speakers. They can be relocated and put in the trunk when not being used.
