    early trombone oil cooler

    Not interested in being entirely correct with the oil cooling on this 72, just trying to understand what might be a problem (if any) with using a trombone cooler from a later model, in this case I think it's from a SC. The PET shows a oil radiator coil (trombone) for a 73 RS but doesn't show a trombone type cooler for the 72 . I like the simplicity of the trombone and since I won't be using the car on the track I think it would be adequate.

    The install was a little perplexing. The hard lines from the tank are definitely 72 and terminate at the cooler in the fender one being shorter than the other. The PET shows two unequal length hoses that connect the to the cooler in the 73. But in my 72 when I match up the later cooler lines to the hard lines I have no room, as the trombone that I have used is hard up against the headlight bucket. This later cooler matches up almost exactly to the hard lines without using the hoses. So, as you can see from the photo that's what I have done. Seems unlikely that I got lucky, anybody have a better explanation?

    later cooler is different.

    The trombone cooler from my '77 (same as SC) did not use the short flex hoses, and bolted directly to the hard lines. I replaced it with the 28-row brass cooler which did require the short flex lines.
