    codes in steering wheels

It will have been discussed here, but I cannot find it through the search mode ....

I see 1965 alu/wood steering wheels with codes inside. What do these mean and are they related to the car vin codes or not?
    here 2 examples.

My guess is that it is either just a sequential number or is related to the VIN# of the car.

I don't think there is any correlation to the car. As Eric alluded to, this has been a question unanswered for decades of asking.
