    What is this for ?

On my California delivered, 911 T from 1970' i have this " rounded box ? " in the front, left, between fuel tank and battery. It is not mentionned in the manuals i have and it does not seem to be present on European cars. What is it ? A filter of some sort ?

I am sure many of you guys ( and girls&#128521 know exactly what it is ! So thank's already for your help !

that is your carbon canister for fuel vapor emissions - it reduces the pollution from your car, keeps your wife from complaining about the smell fro the garage getting into the house, and can also prevent the garage from blowing up if the sealing would otherwise get it to stoich

Thanks ! So it is a filter. Do you know if this is specific to US market cars or California only ?

think about it more as a reservoir than as a filter - the carbon stores the fumes until engine vacuum pulls them in and burns them

if not flooded with liquid gas, they last until they burst open after a few decades (I have never seen one last more than a century)
