    Owner's Manual / Lit Question

After reading the FS post by Michael Moenstermann I had question about these two pieces:

    Name: Photo 12-29-2014 12.30.43 PM.jpg
Views: 140
Size: 115.3 KB
    English language W252 printed 9.64 1500 copies

    Name: Photo 12-23-2014 10.15.44 AM.jpg
Views: 135
Size: 54.8 KB
    German langauge W252 printed 10.64 2000 copies

Do they belong with the owner's manual or are they standalone brochures?

    Carl,

I don't know with certainty that the "Technical Data" booklets were not included in the owner's manual package in the golvebox, but I compared my original W 312e Edition I/65 Driver's Manual to my English version of your lower photo [W252e 5M . October 64] and the Technical Data brochure has pretty much the same information and layout as the Technical Data section of the Driver's Manual.

They aren't quite identical: the Driver's Manual gives metric units first and includes specific power. Still, I can't see why Porsche--a good Swabian company--would include the same data twice.

My best guess is that the Technical Data booklets were reprints of the Technical Data section of the Driver's Manual for advertising purposes.

IMO they are stand-alones, as Jim quoted.
The 901 is much rarer than the 911 version but both are today hard to find.

    I found the W252 10.64 together with a typewriter pricelist and the red/blue brochure W221, dated 12.64.
These three items might show how it originially was given out as a package.
The W252 9.64 probably was given out in connection with the well-known 901 brochure (which itself came in several versions and languages.)

In similar size, style and as it was done with previous 356's, Porsche also printed two TESTE (i.e Car test's) booklets which published some period road tests, written in German, dated 3.65 code W29.

BTW, much more 64-65 literature -including Japan, UK, Sweden, French, Swiss and USA only- literature was printed...I have a few.

    Jim and Karim,

Thank you both. I suppose I was thinking that since they were both owner's manual sized they were a natural pair but you've both explained it so well. I really appreciate the education!
