H4's: Bosch and Hella?

I'm working on my new website and finding out I know more about H1's than H4's. I know that both Bosch and Hella (among others) make the H4 inserts for the original sealed beam units. Is Bosch the only manufacturer of what we refer to as the H4 headlamp or has Hella made them at times as well?




Also, did the Bosch H4 fluted lenses come with clear tops early followed the pebbled tops that we see today?

John, to the best of my knowledge, only Bosch made the H4s, until they subbed it to their spin-off company, AL (Automotive Lighting, real imaginative name, no?)

Also, I don't think the tops were ever clear, always pebbled. There was recently a very early pair sold on the Bird (no city lights), they were pebbled. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ome-rings.html

Thanks Eric. I was wondering about the headlamp that Sierra Madre is offering. I found some really cool early Cibie H4 inserts during the move and gave them to my friend. He's going to use them in a '68 L Coupe that he's restoring.
