    Headlight assembly 1965, 1966, 1967 Differences

    Hi Fellas,

Tried the old search bar and struck out. Hopefully this can help others.

Using Auto Foreigns headlight rim kit and some early911s ford titanium grey paint (thanks dudes!!!) I am restoring some headlight buckets.

These will be going into a 65. I noticed a different emergency drain hole or breather hole in the housing between these 2 assemblies. Can any of you super Porsche gurus post and identify these per year? Feel free to add and share any other differences so we all can sleep better at night knowing the differences!

    Thanks in advance!
    Chris

My car, built October 1965, had the louvered drains on the right, when I acquired it. Hard to know if they are original or not.

Thanks Kenik for the finding. I was thinking the louvered were the older of the two. Anyone else have anything to add?

The headlight with the Hella logo still visible was actually made in October of 1976.

    OK, if I have to.

The Hella date stamp (M 44) decodes as M = 1976 and the 44 is the 44th week in that year.
A headlight made in 1965 would start with a B, 66 would be a C, 67 would be a D and on up the line.

    Regards

    Jim
PS: Pictured is a headlight made in Dec of 65

So, following the series, "Z" would be 1989...the year the 964 started being built. Conspiracy???

Here is a picture of the whole headlight. Notice that is does have the little louver. The one made in 76 doesn't.

    Ciao
