    72 oil console thermostat

This is a car with a front mounted oil cooler, and for cars with the cooler and the lines running forward the oil console houses a thermostat which the PET specifies as p/n 930 107 765 00 . This is the same p/n specified as the thermostat for the engine. The problem is that this thermostat doesn't fit the console. There is a land in the console which interferes with the wall of the thermostat. Anyone run into this problem and have the right p/n? Many thanks for the info.

    Mike

It is the same part. If the console has never had a thermostat installed it will need to be machined to accept the insert.

They were exploring the idea of non interchangeability of parts.

originally, this was NOT the same thermostat !!

    original parts was 916 107 753 00

now they don't supply these part anymore, they just changed it to the same thermostat on the engine.

BUT the thermostat should not open at the same temp° !!!!!

Yes I know. So now I have a console that is fitted with screw cap that would have been installed on a 72 without a front cooler. Not sure what the oil flow will be to the cooler, if any until I can have the thermostat machined as indicated in Ed Mayo's post above.
