    Daniel Ricciardo/Targa Florio/1972 Alfa T33

When I saw these pictures I thought they were paintings of the '72 race. Pretty cool. The Alfa was driven to 2nd place in the '72 race by Helmut Marko who posted a lap record on the last (43 mile) lap.

Funny, I just watched "The Speed Merchants" again the other day for the first time in years. What a fantastic little film! If you've not seen it yet, DO!!! And if you have the chance to drive some of these roads, be sure to. The Sicilian towns and countryside are very little changed since 1972 and there are still traces of the Targa to be seen in a few places. And if you've ever wanted to try an F1 standing start just line up at a traffic light on the main road to Palermo. Lane markers are meaningless...

I haven't watched "The Speed Merchants" for a while. I think I have the DVD around here somewhere, I'll have to see if I can find it. The only thing missing in those recent photos is the car and driver centric graffiti. Makes me want to get on a plane and get away from this horrible New England winter.
