    Chassis 301538 is lonely...

    Hi all,

I have been watching, enjoying and absorbing so many great threads over the last year that I finally bit the bullet and I am now a fully paid up member of this amazing site, spending far more time a day on it than I guess I really should. Hats off to all of you for the passion and learning you have brought. I am hooked and definitely here for the long run...

Now, I have a few old cars. I love them all and I drive the ones that are running all the time. And when time and money allows I try and do what I can to bring the others back to best. I am coming to the end now of a very long, nut and bolt '73 RS restoration (and motorsport history search) and, although I am always finding things I could have done better on the car, I am looking at my next projects.

Among the possibilities, I have a '65 chassis (301538) owned for a couple of years, sitting there in the garage. It needs all the work done to put it right. But which way to go?

I am fairly sure that it is one of the few original sun roof '65s. It has been referred to as such on this site. But I dont have the engine. Right now it has 3080349 in there. Wrong year.

According to the Porsche CoA, and if they didnt make a mistake, the correct engine is 901639, a number that pops up as a changeover engine in the early run. Think I have seen that confirmed on this site too.

So I was hoping that someone out in the community might know this engine, if it still exists or if it has in fact gone to the sunlit uplands for ever. In which case, we can call off the search.

I want to do something with the chassis, ideally re-unite it with the engine but if not I could either find a suitable '65 engine or maybe even "go racing". But that seems a shame on a rare sun roof model.

This is a genuine appeal for info, suggestions, help. I hope this is appropriate for a first post but if not, or if I have made a blunder with any of my assumptions, I apologise in advance.
