Thread: Talbot mirror stamp

    Talbot mirror stamp

It just got harder for me to date Talbot mirrors as I have found one in my parts that has a Berlin vs. W Berlin stamping but the sticker says Western Germany. I have a similar Talbot with the sticker but it says W Berlin. .

    Red face Reunification

    Hi 66S

OK, I'll give this one a try as I share your passion for old Talbots.

As a general proposition all Talbot mirrors made prior
to the reunification of Germany bear the W. Berlin denotation stamped on the housing of the mirror and Western Germany on the sticker, box and paperwork.

After reunification all reference to the West was dropped.

My opinion is that your example was produced after reunification but the sticker was left over on a tape printed during the days prior to that date.

After all, why would a frugal Berliner toss a perfectly good tape of printed labels?

It's confusing at best but talbot man may have it right.evidence seems to suggest both stamps were used as well as West Berlin and west Germany on packaging. Not really certain. I suspect your mirror is early is there packaging to go with the mirror

Interestingly the mirror on the porsche catalog was not the Berlin version but rather the SL 300 senior ,they supplied berlin to the customer or the dealership did ,not certain

The factory optional mirror up through MY67 is the 300 only Senior and was supplied loose for dealer installation. As the 300 Senior is the only Talbot offered for the SWB up through MY1967 and not beyond that is the only one I refer to.
