    Custom JE pistons. ??

I am looking to buy a set of 85mm 10.5.1. high compression JE pistons for my 2.3 short stroke ST motor.

Will i need to provide any other information or will they know what i am after.
Anybody ordered a set of these lately.? A reference or part number would be a great help. As i am over the pond, i don't want to get this order wrong.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

Haven't ordered such, but have had pistons made.
Believe JE has a custom piston order form that you and/or your motor builder can fill out completely. That may help get you the right parts. HTH, Brian

Why not use Wossner pistons ? I believe they have 85's 10.5 's in stock . They use the same alloy as the Mahle 2.2 S's .

When I did it ten years ago they wanted to know something about wrist pin positioning as well as the bore dimensions. And we needed to ourselves mill a couple thousandths off the outside top edge to avoid hitting the heads. You want someone who knows what he is doing filling out those forms to avoid disappointing and expensive results.

Thanks for the reply's guys. Looks like the Wossner is a plug and play with all the homework done for you. Why JE don't do that i don't know.

I am going with the Germans.

In my experience, ordering JE pistons are really made for a wholesaler not really for direct to the public. All the JE's that I have ordered through a dealer were plug and play also....
I trust the engine expert that I order through to get it right and he does...Like Taylor said try to avoid the expensive and disappointing result of a miss-order...

I have ordered 9.5/1 85 mm JE's. Just tell them what it's for, what CR and they will send them to you. The two pictured are both 9.5/1. The dirty one is an older design, apparently.

There's something I am missing here.

How can you order "off the shelf" pistons for a give CR, without actualy knowing your head's volume?
No first hand experience with porsche's head, but given the valves diameter, even a small grind on your valve seats will affect your head's volume, thus the expected CR. Am I wrong???
If I am correct, you would like your engine builder to be able to "cut" the pistons to size to accomodate the expected CR with your heads.

If I were you I'd be carefull with my $$$, just in order not to be disapointed....

    Olivier,

this is what i am learning. I think piston work will be required. As well as the head volume, and head skim. The decks have also been flycut. These factors all affect CR.
