    Out of the booth

I purchased this 71E some time ago and from the pics looked like I would just assemble her. Got her home and the paint finish was like a 20 footer.
Matching numbers, Sportomatic. COA indicates sport seats so found a set.
Looking forward to finishing her, but the quandary: I have all the stuff to finish the build with a nice 901 5 speed or back to original with the Sportomatic. I think I know what Frank would say, looking for additional input. I've never owned a sporto so can't comment much on performance.

I would say assemble it with the manual and save all the sporto gear for the next buyer. Both worlds.I would be interested in a sporto only if it were my second ,maybe 3rd 911. S

Now that it is apart, why don't you paint it. Better than putting it all together and then regretting.
    Is that Tangerine?
    I'd go 5 speed.

I'd vote for the 5 speed as well. I am sure there is a market for the sportomatic or just hang on to it.

If it's to be a daily driver I'd stick with the sporto. For autocross I 'd love to try a 'S' sporto. I owned a 74 sporto for awhile and used to work on many of them back in their day, follow the adjustments in the shop manual and they work great. Sure are great in stop and go traffic!

Just painted with Glasurit 55 two stage and it is color code 2323 or Tangerine, Bluto Orange. Easy to see where the enthusiasts hang out. Had a second consderation from a local. Build the E with MFI and couple it to the sporto as a complete package and install an engine I have on the stand, an already built 3.0 with 10.5 pistons, Elgin Mod S cams and webers set up for a 901 gearbox and install that package, then if you sell, sell the original package and the running car with the 3 liter and 5 speed.
I just really like the 5 speeds so I am pretty sure that is the direction I'm going.
    Thanks, for the insights.
