I'm not sure how much help this is, but here's the transmission chart from the little Spec Booklet:

    I don't see a range here that contains #227399

    That's a 65-67 911/912 5 speed with A F M S X gearing and 7:31 R&P. At least that's what this chart says. I also don't see that range in serial #'s

The serial number ranges the spec booklet gives for the 902/1 (as opposed to the 902/01) are:
    • 220001 - 221721 (to 26 Jul 65)
    • 234001 - 238942 (4cyl engine)
    • 130001 - 131571 (6cyl engine)

    Numbers from 68-Model
    • 3280001 - 3289999

Porsche's tables for SWB 911s are often not so easy to interpret. About all I can deduce for #227399 is it probably came after 26 July 1965.

    The gear ratios are:

    1st A 3.09:1
    2nd F 1.89:1
    3rd M 1.32:1
    4th S 1.04:1
    5th X 0.86:1
    Ring & Pinion 4.43:1

Do You have a photo of the serial number. Sometimes a 1 looks like a 7.
It would make sense if it is....

It's an 902/1 transmission that was used in a car in the month of January 66. Could have been a 911 or 912. If it was a 911 it's in the 3035XX - 3036XX range.

This little specs is either not complete (like printed in 65) or has a flaw. The 901/01 and 902/1 transmission for the cars after the summer of 65 are not in there.

Transmission serial numbers for the 1966 model year were not well documented by Porsche, for some reason.
Numbers like yours come up that do not appear on any list from Porsche.
For 1966 model 902/1 transmissions, that serial number range is roughly from 221722 to 233999, for both 911 and 912 cars.

We discussed this same topic here:

    My 66 911, January 25, 1966 has the 902/1 with serial 227126.

    Yours should be close,
    Mike
