Fascinating. I've always wondered about how they came about optioning the rear wiper option. Great read! Thanks

That was a cool read. My 72s came with that option but wasn't on the car when I bought it. I have never been able to find a replacement.

Are you missing the whole enchilada, or just the arm and blade?

    Rear Wipers on Porsches . . .

'. . . A decade later, a wealthy German industrialist contacted the Porsche factory in 1966 about ordering a new 911 with a special request. He wanted a wiper installed on the rear window. Porsche dutifully set about developing a suitable wiper assembly . . .'

Hm. Well . . . rear wipers have been on Porsches since at least the late-'50s. I can remember seeing a silver coupe, once --- Carrera, maybe? Anyway, NOT exactly common --- I'm almost positive that these installs were all sonderwunsch . . . but not un-heard-of, either

Other than color scheme, are there any visual differences between the SWB / LWB version? Also, is there a fluid reservoir and spray nozzle for the rear wiper?.....cliff

While the original 1964-1967 model year front wipers arms, in addition to being silver in color and parking on the opposite side, were wider in cross-section than the 1968 and later arms (they narrowed down at the point where they entered the blade assembly; the rear arm was always approximately 6.5 mm wide top to bottom, the same as the black 1968 and later versions. The only difference between the two that I am aware of is the paint color.

I have seen period photos of the silver and black arms and blades intermingled on Works rally cars in period, with say, a silver blade on a black arm.

The early 911's never had a rear washer as a standard production option; wiper only.
