    North meets South

Just returned from a delightful weekend attending the 2015 356 Club of Sothern California's annual get-together in Morro Bay. R Gruppe members who've been to the Cambria Treffens are most likely familiar with the area. Weather was the usual for the area at tghis time of the year, i.e. superb after the morning fog and mist clear, interesting and beautiful cars and lots of interesting people.

Competently and effectively organized by 356 Sou-Cal Club president Jeff Trask, the multi-day event came off smoothly, trouble free and according to everyone I spoke with, very enjoyably. I drove down Friday, taking the long way to stay off the freeways, and attended the Concours / Car show on Saturday morning. A fun trip and great yearly tradition.

    Some highlight photos attached.

    Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

The first set shows famous Morro Rock, one of 13 volcanic 'plugs' that stretch in a 25 mile long row from about San Louis Obispo to Morro Bay - cars arriving and staging.

The cars on show are arranged in groups by Type………... pre-A, A, B, C etc.

Photoi #2, the dark blue car is a '51 split window, the oldest car on display. All groups were well represented.

This set contains photos of the two cars which I thought made the entire show - Greg Young;s '58 Carrera GT Speedster and Craig Smith's '60 Carrera Coupe. Other than disc-brakes which came as standard on the last two years of 356 production, these two cars represent virtually the highest level of evolution and development of the 356 Series.

Craig's extremely rare Midnight blue metallic '61 Carrera lightweight GT car has been in his posession for many years and he performs all the work on the car himself. A true enthusiast and a magnificent example of the ultimate 356.

I apologize for the dreadful quality of the first image - I shoot with a fully manual camera and lately my allergies have been killing me, and my eyes were watering so badly I couldn't see the LCD screen clearly enough to check the histogram and I got the exposure all wrong - trying to fix it in Lightroom resulted in the grey, muddy and wholly unsatifactory image posted.

This magnificent red Speedster is not just one of the rare GS "standard" four-cam motor Carreras, rather one of a very limited and exceedingly rare run of GT Lightweight Speedsters, with aluminum hood, doors, engine lid, upgraded twin-plug / twin-distributor, roller bearing crank motor, large fuel tank and the exquisite steel-centered wheels with the alloy rims.
