    1972 MODEL YEAR Weltmeister Question

I know Weltmeister decals have been discussed numerous times on this site, however I am still unclear. Should my early production 1972 911 have the '69/'70 Weltmeister Decal? My car was produced in July '71. Also, where should it be placed?

Its for shure placed on the right rear quarter window (only on some 70 models the "empty years" decal was placed on front windshield, right corner).

Im no specialist in race history but usually the Markenweltmeisterschaft started in February-ish and ended October-ish.
Ie its possible a July 1971 built car would still have the 69/70 decal.

Thanks for the info. If that is the case, I was under the impression that all '69/'70 decals were placed on the front windshield. Would that make sense for a '72 Model Year car?

Thanks for the picture. Your car was manufactured 10 months after mine. Seems to make sense that yor car would have the '72 decal, however the 1972 Can Am had not yet happened in May. Seems that your car should have the '69/'70/'71 decal. My car was made before Porsche would become 1971 World Champions so the '69/'70 decal makes sense for me. Plafemnt seems to be the question at this point.

Are you sure? seems difficult that in May 1972 they already had a 1972 winner decal, the championship ended much later in the year

By 1971 and later it was -without exception- placed on right rear quarter window.

Ok. So it's looking like a 7/71 production car should have the '69/'70 decal in the passenger side quarter window. Correct? Something just seems wrong about a '72 model year car having no mention of 1971.

I suspect that they were dealer installed as the actual sale date was 11/72.

Beep - we need a ruling from our judges on this one - there is no way a 1972 CanAm sticker could be attached to a May 72 build date and be original - impossible!

Why? Because the CanAm season did not start until June 11 at Mosport Park, Canada. Further the season did not conclude until October 29th, 1972 at Riverside. I remember it well as I had just graduated from high school and it was my first time to California. Even more memorable for me was that I attended the race at Riverside which George Follmer won in the mighty L&M Porsche 917. That year I went to Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Road America and Riverside so I was pretty much in tune with the CanAM season.
