In 2004 the Dutch automobile designer, Adrian Van Hooydonk, purchased the car at the time he was Head of Automotive Exterior Design based at BMW’s design centre in the USA. When he was later promoted, in 2005, to be Head of Design for BMW he brought the car back with him to Germany.
In 2008, the car was purchased directly from Adrian Van Hooydonk by the well-known Porsche automotive designer, Tony Hatter, also for his own personal use.
Designers, being the perfectionists that they are, meant that the car was soon to be sent to the respected ex-Porsche Workshop Manager – Herr Manfred Krämer. Between 2008 – 2009 at Krämer they carried out a ground-up restoration including a bare metal re-paint, full suspension and brake overhaul plus a complete engine rebuild, which included modification of the heads to twin-plug specification, with Magneti Marelli 12-plug distributor, K&N air filters and a three-branch sports exhaust system. These upgrades increased the torque and performance on the dyno from the standard 180hp to 201bhp. Krämer has also since rebuilt the gearbox and this 2.2S truly sounds, looks and drives like no other.
Since restoration the car has covered some great road miles including two trips to the UK, in 2011 and in 2012, when it was displayed at Castle Hedingham and presented with a recognition award by ex-works driver and long-term 2.2 911S aficionado, Vic Elford . It has also participated at events organised by the internal Porsche club called FLB - Freunde Luftgekühlte Boxermotoren - a group of Porsche factory employees interested in Porsche vehicles with boxer engines. The car has been photographed on trips to the Solitude track, the test track at Weissach, Gmund and has also been seen crossing the Grossglockner pass.
We are delighted to be able to offer for sale this meticulously prepared and presented Porsche 911 2.2S. It comes complete with an extensive history file, including fully-documented Krämer restoration photographs and invoices, together with books, tools and a personally designed ownership journal designed and produced by Tony Hatter himself . . .'
