    hub cap removal

    I have a 72 with steel wheels & hub caps. The owners manual uses the screwdriver to remove the hub caps, which scratches the wheel. any other tool that works better?

    I've used something like this.... with a small rag under the blade

    On my 911's hubcaps, I just use a big old screwdriver with a rag over the tip. It's never scratched.



    The Sierra Madre Collection Hubcap or Center Cap Remover Tool may work on drum brake hubcaps (356 or VW) but not Porsche 356C or 911 hubcaps. Here's something from The Samba showing how that style puller might work on a 356 or VW hubcap with pairs of holes in the rim:

    Of course, the Hazet 772/2 included with most drum brake 356s works a bit differently. The reproduction hubcaps on my 356 don't have the holes so I've never tried.
