Thread: NOS German velour carpet kit

    NOS German velour carpet kit

This kit has been in it's shipping box for several years so there are fold marks in some of the pieces but nothing that seems permanent or wouldn't disappear upon installation. It came from Auto's International per the shipping label. I just installed a kit in my 71 coupe and based on what I've observed, this kit is for a LWB targa, is made from Feintuft velour and is complete. Feel free to comment if you think I'm mistaken. Looking for $600.00 + shipping.

I thought NOS indicated "Old Stock" as in old factory parts supply. Autos International?......

I try not to use the term "NOS" loosely. I've never associated it strictly with factory only parts. If something is new and has never been installed but the production/manufacture date is old, I call it NOS.

Perhaps many in the hobby would refer to this as NORS (New Old Reproduction Stock)

Is that the same as the original velour? Hard to tell from the picture.

It's slightly different from the carpet kit I bought for my coupe last year, but I beleive it is, yes.

I think most other people do though New Old Stock certainly implies something that came from the original supplier at the very least

I would have to agree. Now if its an aftermarket part that is not a reproduction yet old, I'd refer to it as NOS. In the case of this carpet kit I'd probably have used the term "As new" and tried to determine how old it is. NOS in this sense doesn't mean much as the quality of the reproduction could be fantastic or poor (not in question in this case). The age is a bit irrelevant unless aging of a piece renders it unusable. Again, not the case here obviously.

When I think of NOS, I too think of an original manufacturer piece. This implies a level of quality associated with the production of said piece.

Just an aside and a free bump for 9series!

I assume this kit did not work/fit in your '71 coupe? What is different from the kit you installed? I also have a '71 coupe.
