Oil temp gauge not working: Is '66 gauge compatible with '70 2.2 sending unit?

I've finally got all the gauges working in my '66 912 with a 2.2 transplant, except the oil temp gauge. When I start the car, the temp gauge immediately maxes out. Does anyone know if the gauge and sending units are incompatible?

Further research tells me that no, they are not compatible. Anyone have a used SWB temp sending unit they want to part with?

The sending unit needs to match the gauge, not the engine. I had the same problem; 72 911T with 77 2.7 engine. It took a while, now the gauge reads normal with the correct sender.
