As far as I know they are a pressure fit....
Try a hair dryer or heat gun to get them 'warm' then try to rotate off...... holding the stock steady for no undue stress

It looks like you bought the car from a tweaker
What exactly are u trying to remove? The plastic steering column surrounds or the gauges as chuck has assumed
if it is the steering column covers you have to unscrew the metal horn contact and the screws in the front that u see. Once the metal horn contact is out of the way u will see 2 screws for the top and 2 for the bottom part to undo. There is also one at the side ( Rhs??) of the column pieces holding the two together. Undo that as well and they come off.

Who's on first? I think OP and Chuck are talking about the plastic handles for the turn signal switch and wiper switch. Those look like they just rotted off like the previous owner's teeth. Are new plastic handles available?

1966 912. My first car. Bought it Nov. 25, 1988. Still have it.
The best way is to heat them with a heat gun and then whittle them off with a razor blade. The heat gun is not that necessary, though.

I was running my 66 912 in a DE at Willow, and early in the day a bike racer had borrowed a friend's 356 coupe for a run, got off in the big sweeper, got into the sand and did a multiple flip...So they set up a radical chicane with clown hats to slow everyone down. Of course...I came in way too hot, did a spin in the middle of the chicane trying desperately to avoid the sand, and managed to keep it on the track.
When I calmed down, I noticed that I had snapped off the end if the turn signal stalk and was holding it in in my left hand! Apparently reflexes took over and...I was using my turn signal as I was spinning the car! Excess adrenaline did the rest....
