Not trying to copy our friends over on "The Bird", but I think it'd be beneficial if we had an engine rebuilding forum on the early s. Opinions on this?

Sure.
If you want a hundred different opinions on any given procedure.
Some of them even worth using.
True! A LOT of misinformation floating around out there....
By the way, did you get my PM Frank?

Get a factory manual, engine disassembly/assembly gruppe obviously. Read. Re-read. Not much else needed except for some practice and experience. Following directions and not deviating from procedure one should be fine. A lot of the stuff is universal- torque sequence, installing rings, bearings, gaskets and what nots. Only thing really different is cam timing because it's semi fully adjustable ( most cars one lines certain marks for cam timing, 911cam timing is a bit more complex but the instructions make it doable).
But, as you have said, there are multiple ways to do everything. Some are right though. Factory manual explains everything really well. Much better than Audi, which says, "remove, install in reverse order."
None the less, can't wait to see your engine back together.

Will post a thread from 'go to whoa' when I get all the photos and details Sebastian. I have most of the text ready now. Thanks for starting this thread which can identify some of the issues with early cars.
